Tips On Buying Camping Lanterns
Trying to choose the right camping lantern might seem easy – but there are so many to choose from that it can turn into a big ordeal. You want to make sure that you choose something that is practical, affordable, and easy to take with you wherever you go. There are a few things to look out for.
Start off by thinking about where you are going and why type of camping you will be doing. If you are going to be driving out to the campsite than you will be doing very little walking. If this is the case than you can easily bring along a larger lantern full of fuel. However, if you plan on walking a few miles to get to where you will pitch the camp than you need something lightweight and that can fit inside your pack.
What other supplies are you going to be taking with you? Are you brining along cooking stoves or items that use some type of fuel? If so than it would be more affordable for you to bring along a fuel lantern. That way you will have enough fuel to keep it going through the whole trip.
Make sure that you choose a globe that is going to be practical to use in the woods. Most lanterns are built with either mesh or glass globes. The metal mesh are more rugged and durable enough to handle anything that your trip might have. The glass globes will provide you with more light – but they are easier to use when you are staying at a cabin and don’t have to hike to the site.
Will you need to use it inside of the tent? Is you answered yes than you will absolutely want to take a flameless lantern. You can buy rechargeable camping lanterns for $20 to bring into the tent and avoid any fire hazards. Just make sure that you bring along extra batteries.
